Alicia Keys smoky voice belts out: “Baby, I’m from New York. Concrete jungle where dreams are made of. There’s nothing you can’t do. Now you’re in New York.” Enter Alexandra Lebenthal: President & CEO of Lebenthal Holdings. A modern Manhattan executive who works ambitiously to achieve her dreams and aspirations, though also finds time to get into the “social spirit” especially during the holidays with family & friends.

Alexandra is a Wall Street veteran and a 3rd generation business owner. Starting her career at Kidder Peabody Inc., she now runs Lebenthal Holdings. Her grandparents, Louis and Sayra Lebenthal, founded Lebenthal & Co., Inc., a municipal bond specialist, in 1925, with her grandmother working until 93 years of age. Alexandra joined the company in 1988, charged with leading the firm in 1995 at the age of 31.

Lebenthal adds, “James, my late Father, a pioneer of the municipal bond industry, whose radio spots helped make tax-exempt securities a household name, was my role model; he shaped much of how I think about our Strategic Vision. In fact: We’ve expanded our capabilities since inception to become more of a full service Wealth Advisory platform with divisions in Municipal Bonds, Capital Markets, Asset Management (run by my brother Jimmy) and Family Office Services.”

“As a premier boutique, we stick to what we know best: that’s been the crux of our success, remaining customer-focused.”

Alexandra is humble by all accounts though her accomplishments are numerous: She was named one of New York’s 100 most influential women in 1999 by Crain’s New York Business and one of the top 50 Women in Wealth Management in 2009 by Wealth Manager Magazine. And part of the game plan is to take the firm public in the next 5 years.

Though Lebenthal is not always all about business.

Many evenings, in addition to being an engaged mother of 3 children, she crafts a careful balancing act and is out either with her husband, Jay Diamond or on her own, walking the red carpet for work and social functions. She favors designers Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. And where does she like to go for a drink to kick back beforehand?

“That’s easy,” remarks Lebenthal. She offers, “I frequent the 21 Club Restaurant, an upscale former speakeasy in a classic New York setting and Tavern 51 at The Palace Hotel, a chic new spot. For Happy Hour, I go to Bobby Van’s; they serve great warm potato chips.”

Lebenthal’s Red Carpet Drink of choice?

Typically, Alexandra is a wine drinker, though on occasion, she’ll mix her own brand of cocktail that’s got a little bit more punch than a regular Mimosa: Prosecco, orange juice and grenadine.
“I also love to have a Mojito when I go out with the girls.”
