So it’s Circa 1978: Think Blondie’s “Hanging on the Telephone.”
Good music and good wine reach across generations.  On that very subject in 2014: Enter “Happy Hour By Phone.”

How does it work? Pick a time, say 5pm and call a friend.

Diane Weingarden, (80 years old) a resident of New York’s Manhattan, schedules a “Happy Hour by Phone” (HHBP) weekly with Judy DeMauro, a resident of Del Ray Beach, Florida.

And as Joan River’s so famously coined the phrase, “Who Are You Wearing”; Social Spirits wants to know: “What Are You Drinking?”

Recently Diane bought a bottle of Iron Horse’s Estate Chardonnay (available at River Road Wines of Edgewater, NJ) uncorked it, called Judy and voila.

“It’s a lot of fun to have a cocktail, or glass of wine and catch up,” remarks Diane.  In fact: Diane and Judy have known each other for over 35 years, so there’s a lot to talk about. Diane offers, “We look forward to our weekly HHBP. Judy and I always got together for dinner when we lived close by, though once she moved South, we couldn’t meet in person anymore; the HHBP is the next best thing.”

“It’s a girl thing. No husbands involved! We talk about family and other juicy stuff; it’s all about the conversation and re-connecting,” adds Diane.

HHBP is an age-neutral concept, done via phone or for the Millennial set using iphone’s Face Time or Skype.

It’s a great way to get in the “social spirit” and celebrate Happy Hour or DIY TGIF. Drinking responsibly always of course: Sauld!
